Arts & Humanities

BR Ryall YMCA is proud to offer you brand new Arts & Humanities programs. With schools cutting art from their budgets, the National YMCA has made it a major part of their efforts in serving the community. By incorporating the YMCA’s core values – caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility – we continue to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities enriching lives through art, world culture, dance, theatre, horticulture and many more programs. Early Childhood Spanish (18–36 months)
Come join us for an interactive parent & toddler class designed to introduce the Spanish language by listening to stories & music in Spanish.

Español para Pequenitos (Ages 3 & 4)
Let your little one explore the world in Spanish! In Spanish for Pequenitos (Little Ones), children investigate different themes each week from animals to transportation through games, books & music played in Spanish.

Aprendamos Español (Ages 5-7)
A progression from our beginner class, we will introduce more difficult words and phrases. Completion of Spanish – an introduction or instructor approval is required for registration.

Spanish – An Introduction (Ages 7-10)
Imagine teaching your children basic Spanish words and phrases. Spanish is taught through a variety of methods including games & music.

Spanish Club (Ages 10+)
Learn about Spanish-speaking countries’ culture, traditions, festivities and more! Club members meet once a month for a variety of activities. For more information call 858.0100 ext. 212. Fall session activities include: Mexican Indepence Day Fiesta (September); Dia de Muertos – Day of the Dead (November); Posada – Christmas Party (December).

Private Spanish Lessons (Ages 7-10)
Are you interested in learning Spanish? Or maybe you want to brush up on your current skills. Private Spanish Lessons are now being offered at the YMCA. These one-on-one, 45-minute lessons are available for a variety of skill levels. Flexible scheduling. Call 858- 0100, ext. 212 for more information or to set up an appointment. Lessons must be paid prior to lesson time. A receipt must be given to the instructor at the time of the lesson.

Reading Readiness (Ages 3-7)
Would you like to help your children get ahead? Introduce basic reading skills to small ones and enhance reading skills for bigger ones in a class that focuses on letter recognition and phonic blends and sounds through games and activities.

Knitting Class – Beginners 1 (Teens & Adults)
Add some flair and a touch of color to your wardrobe with your own hand made knit garments. Learn to knit or refresh old knitting skills! Projects will range from trendy winter scarves to simple dish cloths. Instructor will inform students what materials to bring on the first day. Supply list available at registration desk after July 15.

Storytime (Ages 3-7)
Leave your kids with us for story time while you work out. We’ll have storytelling, puppet shows, and lots of audience participation.

Messy Arts (Ages 3-6)
Not a fan of cleaning up homemade play dough, finger paint or glue? This is the class for your young children. Each week, our experienced instructors will bring an exciting project; making stickers, finger painting or making play dough just to name a few. The best part is—we clean up!

Stretch~Breathe*Shake! (Ages 3-6)
Lights! Camera! Action . . . Introducing theatre to your kids. Children will be introduced to theatre terms, learn how to do improv and express themselves through movement while building self esteem. Let imaginations run wild!

Kindermusik
Toddlers (Ages 18 months – 3 years)
Focused listening and vocal development are realized through playing simple instruments, rhythmic patterning and singing. Musical expression is encouraged through a variety of movement activities. Parent/caregiver participates in 30-minute class.

Pre-Schoolers (Ages 3-4)
Classes designed to build attention and self-expression through exploring musical instruments, singing, chanting, creative movement and storytelling. Parent/caregiver attends the 45-minute class.

Kindermusik Classes are provided by Wheaton College Community School of the Arts.
