and the B.R. Ryall YMCA is doing it's part by participating in Glen Ellyn Donor Days. Glen Ellyn Donor Days is designed to educate and inform community members about the new laws pertaining to organ & tissue donors. As of 1/1/2006, Illinois passed a law that created a new first person registry. Prior to that date, someone could sign the back of their license if they wished to be an organ donor, but their wishes could be overridden by their family members. With the new first person registry, if a person registers, their wishes become legally binding and can not be overridden. Before the new law, 6.5 million people had signed the back of their licenses. When the new law went into effect, the Illinois organ donor list went to zero again. So, what's the Y doing? The B.R. Ryall YMCA will play host to Secretary of State Jesse White and his staff who will be available on Saturday, April 6 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. to answer questions and help anyone interested in registering as an organ/tissue donor.
