Sports Volunteer Opportunities

 

COACH

Kids dream of being the star of the team! With the Y's philosophy, that can be a reality for everyone in our youth sports leagues, and here is an opportunity for you to be part of that life-enriching experience.

Responsibilities

> Lead weekly practices and games
> Teach the fundamentals of the sport so that the players progress to the next level
> Use the YMCA's proven everybody plays everybody wins method to help teach sportsmanship and the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and responsibility

Qualifications

> Must have knowledge of sport, previous coaching experience a plus
> Must have strong communication skills and be organized.
> Must work well with children and parents.
> Must believe in and promote the mission of the YMCA

Commitment

All volunteers must attend a mandatory volunteer orientation and commit to serve 2-4 hours per week for the duration of the season.

> Basketball - 10 weeks
> T-Ball - 10 Weeks
> Flag Football - 8 weeks

REFEREE

Responsibilities

> Use knowledge of sport to ensure order and promote safe and fair play

Qualifications

> Must have knowledge of sport, previous refereeing experience a plus
> Must have strong communication skills
> Must work well with coaches, players & parents
> Must believe in and promote the mission of the YMCA

Commitment

All volunteer referees must attend a mandatory volunteer orientation and commit to serving 4-8 hour Saturday shifts for the duration of the season.

> Flag Football - 9am-5pm
> Basketball - 9am-1pm or 1-5pm

ASSISTANT INSTRUCTOR

Responsibilities

> Assist class instructor in any way that is needed to promote learning and fun in a productive environment
> Assist in teaching the fundamentals of the sport while helping to develop an understanding of the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility

Qualifications

> Must have knowledge of sport to be taught
> Must have strong communication skills and be organized
> Must work well with children
> Must believe in and promote the mission of the YMCA

Commitment

All volunteers must attend a mandatory volunteer orientation and commit to serving regularly 1-3 hours per week for the duration of the seven-week season.

> TumbleThrees
> Munchkin Soccer

CLIMBING CENTER ATTENDANT

Responsibilities

> Assist patrons by belaying climbers
> Assist with parties
> Assist with scheduled classes

Qualifications

> Must be belay certified
> Must have strong communication skills and be organized
> Must work well with children and adults
> Must believe in and promote the mission of the YMCA

Commitment

All Climbing Center volunteers must attend a mandatory volunteer orientation and Climbing Center training, and commit to serving regularly for the duration of a seven-week season.
