B.R. RYALL YMCA OF NORTHWESTERN DUPAGE COUNTY

Part of Something Great

Posted on December 5, 2013

At the B.R. Ryall YMCA, we have a large group of active senior men that have been enjoying the Y for decades. They are fondly referred to as the “mens’ table,” as they gather almost daily to enjoy rich conversation and deep friendships after a good workout. Their children have participated in Y programs that helped them learn, grow and thrive and their wives are connected and engaged in the Y with their own active senior ladies group.

One day we approached the “mens’ table” and asked if they wanted to tell their Y story. With a majority vote of an enthusiastic yes, they couldn’t wait to get started on the project. The following quotes from the “mens’ table” demonstrates that the Y delivers lasting personal and social change…

  • “The best thing about the Y is the people.  On days I don’t have energy to exercise, I still come to enjoy my friends, solve the world’s problems and be part of something great.”
  • “About eight of us were heart patients and we needed a place for rehab.  We are still improving our health at the Y nine years later.”
  • “I joined the Y after a visit to the doctor and my weight, blood pressure and even my golf handicap is better.  If I don’t visit the Y on a given day, I just don’t feel right.”
  • “If I don’t come to the Y on any given day, I just don’t feel right. It’s a habit for me. Because of the Y, I am healthy and feel complete every day.”
  • “The best part about the B.R. Ryall YMCA is the people, the deep relationships we have established with members and staff, and that the Y has connected us to the community.”
