Sally & Jen’s Story
I was getting bored with my exercise routine and the attempt to lose weight was at a standstill. Then I met a Y member, Jen, who shared some of my same frustrations. Jen had moved here recently and was interested in doing some personal training. So, she convinced me to do it with her, that is, after I got over feeling like I was old enough to be her mother.
We trained with Megan, starting off with holding onto the treadmill as I walked along. End of the first day, I began to run on the treadmill, no hands, didn’t die and didn’t fall off. I did it!
Megan continued to push Jen and I ever so slowly. I was convinced to run a 5K and thought what a joke. Jen and Megan were always by my side pushing and motivating me to keep going. Well, I ran my first 5K with Jen and Megan in April 2012 and actually finished the race. Of course I thought, never again.
Since then, Jen and I continue to run and have completed four more 5Ks. It makes me feel great both physically and mentally. Because of the Y, I love to run, I have attempted new things, and I have met so many great friends along the way.
