We’re currently hiring for the following positions:

Reports to: Senior Director, Healthy Living

Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Pay Range: $26-30/hour

Position Summary: This position will be responsible for planning, implementing and promoting private, semi-private and group sports performance trainings for youth, teens and young adults. 

Essential Functions:

  1. Plan and deliver private, semi-private and group classes according to standards of operations (dependent on coaching clients – Y, Parisi, etc.).
  2. Utilize software to schedule training sessions and plan out program structure.
  3. Build rapport with athletes and parents. Communicate athlete progress to parents.
  4. Arrive at the YMCA with adequate time to set up for class. Ensure all equipment is properly set-up, taken down, and put away in its designated location prior to and after class. Notify supervisor of any equipment needing repair.
  5. Create a healthy and safe environment while providing education and motivation to young athletes.
  6. Attend staff meetings and approved trainings as required.
  7. Ensure safe and effective workouts. Respond to and report all accidents and incidents to supervisor and Vice President of Programs using B.R. Ryall YMCA Incident Form.
  8. Discuss and promote all YMCA programs and events.
  9. Motivate participants and members to commit to long-term participation in YMCA programs.
  10. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  11. Complete additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Fitness or related field preferred.
  2. Post-secondary sports experience preferred.
  3. Complete the Parisi Speed School trainings and certification prior to coaching any Parisi clients.
  4. Personal training certification from a nationally accredited organization preferred. Additional personal training opportunities may be available to coaches who also hold a valid personal training certification.
  5. Maintain current CPR, AED, First Aid certifications.
  6. Must have good interpersonal, public relations, and communications skills.
  7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.
  8. Enthusiasm, a professional image, and the ability to empathize and support members and program participants from a wide variety of age groups and demographics.

Physical Demands: Must be energetic and able to handle the physical demands of the job. Coaches must be physically able to demonstrate any and all recommended exercises and routines. Standing, walking, talking and active listening are other demands of the position. Employees must be able to lift at least 45 pounds.

Reports to: Child Care Director

Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

Pay Range: $15.50-$16.50/hour

Position Summary: The Assistant Teacher – Early Childhood Program assists the lead teacher in the care and education of a group of children as part of a teaching team. (ages 2, 3 or 4). The Assistant Teacher works as a floater with the teaching team to plan, implement, as well as supervise the activities in a curriculum that is in accordance with the developmentally appropriate practices as defined by the state standards, DCFS regulations and the B.R. Ryall YMCA operational policies. This position requires active participation with the other members of the teaching team, and parents to assess and address the needs of individual children and ensure that the child’s and family’s needs are supported.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provides day-to-day supervision to a classroom of children ages 2-5. 
  2. Assists in the planning and implementation of a developmentally appropriate and creative curriculum.
  3. Assists in the development of classroom centers that respond to children’s interests and are coordinated with the ongoing curriculum. 
  4. Assists in the development and management of whole and small group activities that include, but are not limited to, literacy, math, music, games, art, science and gym.
  5.  Maintains accurate program documentation (incident/discipline/attendance/sign-in and out).
  6. Ensures the daily care of every child by following licensing guidelines and implementing organizational policies.
  7. Communicates directly with parents and prospective parents to achieve success for the child.
  8. Maintains a fun and interactive classroom that is clean and organized.
  9. Attends necessary training and conferences (First Aid, CPR, etc.)
  10. Must be able to work variable hours 30 to 40 Hours per week

Qualifications:

  1.  Must be at least 17 years old.
  2. Must be a senior in high school or have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  3. 1+ years of professional experience working in child care or school setting preferred
  4. Must have good interpersonal and communication skills. 
  5. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with parents, children and other staff.
  6. Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  7. Applicants must have, or obtain, First Aid/CPR certification within the first 60 days of employment.

Physical Demands:

  1. Must be in reasonably good physical condition and be able to work extended periods of time on his/her feet.
  2. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position including walking, standing, bending, kneeling and lifting.
  3. The physical ability to supervise, instruct and lead groups of children
  4. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
  5. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time (less than 29 hours per week)

Pay Range: $26-$30/hour

Position Summary: Provide one-on-one fitness while supporting the mission and core values of the YMCA, and building relationships with our members. Create a healthy and safe environment while providing education and motivation.

Essential Functions:

  1. Design and implement safe, effective, and enjoyable fitness programs that meet the unique needs and wants of each member utilizing the equipment available.
  2. Determine any and all physical limitations that a client may have. Trainers should choose exercises that provide the optimum results and use specific routines that clients enjoy. Trainers evaluate the clients’ physical fitness and keep track of their progress.
  3. Plan and instruct individuals and/or small groups with a personalized approach following YMCA standards and guidelines.
  4. Keep accurate records of members’ health history, assessments and progress.
  5. Discuss and promote all other YMCA programs to motivate members to commit to long-term participation in the YMCA.
  6. Engage with members in the Wellness Center on a regular basis to increase interest and participation in the personal training program.
  7. Keep up-to-date on health-related classes/lectures to provide the most current information to members.
  8. Notify Senior Director of Healthy Living and Sports Programs of any equipment that is in need of repair or maintenance.
  9. Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Must hold NCCA accredited Personal Trainer certification and be CPR, AED and First Aid certified
  2. Must be 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communications skills.
  4. Must have strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  5. Possess the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.
  6. Demonstrate enthusiasm, a professional image and the ability to empathize and support members and program participants ranging in age from 2 to 100.

Physical Demands: Must be energetic and able to handle the physical demands of the job. Trainers must be physically able to demonstrate any and all recommended exercises and routines. Standing, walking, talking and active listening are other demands of the position. Employees must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Reports to: Wellness Center Coordinator and Senior Director, Healthy Living

Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time 

Pay Range: $15.50/hour

Position Summary: Provides a safe and positive experience for all members in the Wellness Center. Interacts with members and gives them experience that makes them want to come back again. Be present and approachable if they need any assistance or guidance on the equipment. Initiates repair when the piece of equipment is down, including placing a sign on the machine and notifying your supervisor. Ensures that all fitness areas are clean, organized and prepared for member use.

Essential Functions:

  1. Performs assigned maintenance duties to keep all pieces of equipment clean and working.
  2. This position requires you to have basic knowledge of exercise machines and be able to give fitness orientations with adults and children ages 11-15.
  3. Ensures that all fitness areas are organized and prepared for member use.
  4. Any questions that arise should be reported to the supervisor.
  5. Be attentive to members and their needs. Socializes with all members.
  6. Follows all staff rules and guidelines for members. Sets the example.
  7. Reads, knows, follows and enforces emergency procedures, YMCA policies, rules, and health codes applicable to the facility.
  8. Promptly performs all daily supply checks and follows all daily cleaning and class set up/tear down schedules.
  9. Responsible for all scheduled hours and, if necessary, follows the appropriate substitution procedures.

Qualifications:

  1. High school student age 16+, high school graduate or equivalent.
  2. Must have basic knowledge of fitness and fitness equipment.
  3. Must be CPR, AED and First Aid certified (or obtain within 30 days of employment). Maintains certifications.
  4. Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communications skills.
  5. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.
  6. Must demonstrate enthusiasm, a professional image and the ability to empathize and support members and program participants ranging in age from 2 to 99.
  7. Wears YMCA assigned shirt, athletic pants or shorts, nametag, and tennis shoes to all shifts.

Physical Demands: Must be energetic and able to handle the physical demands of the job. Standing, walking, cleaning, talking and listening are the physical demands of the job. Employees must also be able to lift up to 45 pounds.

Reports to: Senior Director, Healthy Living

Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Pay Range: Up to $36/class

Position Summary: Instruct fitness classes while supporting the mission and core values of the YMCA–and building relationships with our members. Create a healthy and safe environment while providing motivation.

Essential Functions:

  1. Plans and instructs fitness and/or related classes, following YMCA standards and guidelines.
  2. Acts professionally in the presence of members, guests and staff utilizing the Y core values.
  3. Ensures all equipment is properly set-up, taken down, and put away in its designated location prior to and after class. Notifies the Senior Director, Healthy Living of any equipment needing repair.
  4. Attends staff meetings and approved trainings as required.
  5. Maintains current NCCA accredited certifications for all formats taught.
  6. Ensures safe and effective workouts. Responds to and reports, accidents and incidents.
  7. Builds relationships with members and has the ability to answer fitness-related questions within scope of knowledge.
  8. Discusses and promotes all YMCA programs and events taught by them and other instructors during class.
  9. Conveys concerns from members or guests in a constructive manner.
  10. Motivates members to commit to long-term participation.
  11. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
  12. Completes additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Must hold YMCA approved certifications through a nationally accredited organization and be CPR, AED and First Aid certified. (YMCA Group Exercise Instructor, ACE, AFAA or ACSM Health Fitness Instructor)
  2. Must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communications skills.
  4. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.

Reports to: Aquatics Director

Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Pay Range: $15-$16/hour (lifeguard) and $14.50-$15.50 (swim instructor)

Position Summary: Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Conducts swim classes and lessons.

Essential Functions:
Lifeguard

  1. Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.
  2. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.
  3. Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
  4. Knows, understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
  5. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
  6. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  7. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.

Swim Instructor

  1. Conducts individual and group swim lessons.
  2. Engages parents in the achievements of their swimmers.

Other

Attends all staff meetings and trainings as required.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum age of 16.
  2. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
  3. Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding
  4. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
  5. Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: 

  1. Ability to pass lifeguard water test.
  2. Must be able to remain alert.
  3. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.
  4. Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
  5. Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
  6. Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.
  7. Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.
  8. Ability to work in a chlorine environment.
  9. Ability to work in high humidity.
  10. Ability to work in temperatures over 80 degrees.

Reports to: Safe ‘n Sound Site Lead/School Age Program Coordinator

Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Pay Range: $15.50-$16.50/hour

Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Safe ‘n Sound Site Lead and/or School Age Program Coordinator, the Safe ‘n Sound Assistant Lead is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of 1 of our 9 school sites.  Assistant Leads must help promote the Safe ‘n Sound program name and positively impact the communities awareness on what the program offers. An Assistant Lead will be asked to develop relationships with the participants, parents and school staff in addition to communicating effectivity to each party listed above. An Assistant Lead must be dedicated to serving our Youth in the following the Y’s core values and in the areas of educational assistance, character development and social growth. 

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist in the supervision and day-to-day direction of participants in the Safe ‘n Sound before and after school program at a designated site location.
  2. Assist the Site Lead in planning and executing daily activities including, but not limited to, home work time, snack, character development, group games and arts/crafts.
  3. Set up/clean-up site, as needed.
  4. Have direct involvement with children and act as mentor to program participants.
  5. Monitor, guide and redirect children’s behaviors, as necessary.
  6. Organize and maintain all equipment and supplies. Pick up supplies and snack from YMCA on a need be basis.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED
  2. Two years of college coursework preferred or equal experience working directly with children in a group setting. Working towards a degree in education or related field a plus.
  3. Previous experience working with school age children a plus.
  4. Must have capacity to make decisions and communicate effectively with participants, parents and school staff.
  5. Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  6. Must have a flexible schedule and able to work Monday – Friday between the hours of: 6:30 am – 9:00 am and then again from 3:15 pm – 6:00 pm.
  7. Applicants must have, or obtain, First Aid/CPR certification within the first 60 days of employment.

Reports to: Director, School Age Programs

Status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time

Pay Range: $17-$18/hour

Position Summary: The Safe ‘n Sound Site Lead is responsible for the daily operations of 1 of our 9 school sites. A Site Lead must promote the Safe ‘n Sound program name and positively impact the community’s awareness on what the program offers. A Site Lead is to develop relationships with the participants, parents and school staff in addition to communicating effectivity to each party listed above. A Site Lead must be dedicated to serving our youth in the following the Y’s core values and in the areas of educational assistance, character development and social growth. A Site Lead will be asked to motivate other staff members, as well as lead a group of individuals in various activities.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provide day-to-day direction and supervision of Safe ‘n Sound before- and after-school program at a designated site location.
  2. Plan and execute daily activities including, but not limited to, homework time, snack, character development, group games and arts/crafts.
  3. Create and distribute monthly newsletter to program participants.
  4. Create and maintain all attendance sheets, authorized pick up lists, allergy lists and other needed information.
  5. Supervise and lead other staff at the school site.
  6. Develop and maintain relationships with parents and school staff.
  7. Have direct involvement with children and act as mentor to program participants.
  8. Monitor, guide and redirect children’s behaviors, as necessary.
  9. Organize and maintain all equipment and supplies. Pick up supplies and snacks from YMCA on an as needed basis.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
  2. Two years of college coursework preferred. Working towards a degree in education or a related field a plus.
  3. Must have previous experience working in a group setting supervising children.
  4. Must have previous experience planning and implementing age-appropriate programs for school-age children.
  5. Previous experience supervising other staff a plus.
  6. Must have capacity to make decisions and communicate effectively with participants, parents and school staff.
  7. Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  8. Must have a flexible schedule and able to work Monday – Friday with a split shift that includes the following hours: 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 3:15–6 p.m.
