Celebrate National Senior Citizens Day

Every year on National Senior Citizens Day, we pause to celebrate the incredible older adults who enrich our lives as leaders, mentors, friends, and vital members of our community. At the B.R. Ryall YMCA, we believe that every stage of life is an opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive — and we’re proud to offer programs and activities designed to help older adults stay healthy, connected, and active.

Wellness and Fitness for Every Body

Staying active is one of the best ways to support lifelong health, and the Y offers a wide variety of classes tailored to older adults. View our schedule online.

  • Aqua Fitness Classes – Low-impact workouts in the pool, gentle on joints while building strength and endurance.
  • Balance, Cardio/Strength (Lite), and Y Foundation Fitness – Classes that focus on stability, mobility, and overall strength.
  • Zumba and Dance – Fun, energizing ways to stay moving through rhythm and community.

Fun, Friendship, and Connection

Wellness goes beyond exercise — it’s also about staying socially engaged. At the Y, older adults can discover new hobbies and friendships through recreational and social programs like:

  • Pickleball – An easy-to-learn, social sport that’s become a favorite among many members.
  • Bridge Club – A chance to sharpen your mind while connecting with others in a relaxed setting.

Specialized Programs for Support

The Y is proud to offer Parkinson’s Programs that provide safe, supportive, and adaptive wellness opportunities for individuals managing Parkinson’s disease. These programs are designed to improve strength, flexibility, and quality of life in a welcoming environment.

Special Events, Outings, and Seminars to Inspire Healthy Living

At the Y, we believe in creating meaningful experiences that go beyond daily fitness. One of our most exciting events is Open the Y Day, offered twice a year. This free, fun-filled day features sample fitness classes, vendor fair with community health partners/resources and engaging activities designed to inspire healthy habits and encourage active aging. In addition, older adults can take part in monthly educational seminars on topics that support lifelong wellness and enjoy outings that combine social connection with active living. Together, these opportunities make it easy to try something new, build friendships and discover all that the Y has to offer.

Join Us in Celebrating Older Adults

On National Senior Citizens Day, we invite you to:

  • Join a class and discover a new passion.
  • Connect with others through clubs and social groups.
  • Celebrate wellness by taking part in programs designed with you in mind.

At the B.R. Ryall YMCA, we are proud to walk alongside older adults as they continue to grow, move, and thrive. Together, we can celebrate the wisdom, strength, and vibrancy that seniors bring to our community every day.
